About the SMC

The ICGTD is a non-profit organisation. It has no sponsors, no membership fees. All its activities are carried out on a volunteer basis and has the strong support of ISPP and of the Mediterranean Phytopathological Society, editor of Phytopathologia Mediterranea.

The committee keeps in touch by email and meets in workshops every three years, or also organizing Satellite meetings and specific Sessions n wider congresses as in the ISPP congress. In the occasion of the International Workshop on Grapevine Trunk Diseases (IWGTD) a meeting of the Executive Committee is always organised, planning future meetings, publication of results, committee composition, membership and so on. During the workshops decisions are taken on the names to use for diseases and other matters of common interest. The abstracts of every workshop are published in the International Journal Phytopathologia Mediterranea, that also hosts Special issues from the Workshops.

Committee Activities

Workshops are now organized every three years, instead of two years. The abstracts of oral and poster presentations are published in Phytopathologia Mediterranea. Special issues dedicated to the results presented at each workshop are also published in the same journal. The strong network created since the very beginning creates exchanges, communication and collaboration among students and researchers. The frequent and most friendly contacts created a really fruitful and pleasant friendly atmosphere in the group. In this atmosphere ICGTD Workshops also became an occasion for discussion and decision making on general matters as names of the trunk diseases we are dealing with.

CURRENT Committee Members

Current membership. 300 members belong to the Council as all researchers that participated in the workshops became automatically ICGTD members, anyway at present a specific request to be a member needs to be presented filling up a specific form. Membership still has no charge.

The Council is run by a Board and an Executive Committee. The chairperson of the Board is the researcher that organized the last workshop. The founder members and the organizers of the previous workshops also become stable members of the council. Regional coordinators are also nominated by the Executive committee.

Publications

The abstracts of the papers presented at each meeting are published in the Open Access International journal Phytopathologia Mediterranea soon after the workshop. Selected and peer reviewed Review papers and Research papers are then published as Special issues containing some of the more relevant results obtained on the subject that had been presented by selected experts at the workshops. The 12th IWGTD Special issues is now under preparation to be published in the 2023 August issue. Some of these issues were published also thanks to the relevant support of ISPP (Special issue of Phytopathologia Mediterranea on grapevine trunk diseases, namely the 3rd and the 7th Special issue).

Additional Comments, if any:

The links created within the ICGTD were the base for the construction of the European network on the subject. On the base of the ICGTD network the COST Action ManaGTD - FA1303 Sustainable control of Grapevine Trunk Diseases, under the guidance of Dr Florence Fontaine worked profitably for three years. The collaboration led to organizing a joint ICGTD workshop with the COST Action FA1303 (Reims, France).
